Caterpillar Paving Products Inc. and Closner Equipment Co., Inc. have signed an Extended Service Agreement for the support of Barber-Greene (BG) asphalt pavers in Texas.
Caterpillar acquired the BG brand from Astec Industries in 1991. Caterpillar announced on June 1, 2013 they were discontinuing the production of BG branded pavers. For the past 15 years, Caterpillar has sold both BG and CAT branded asphalt pavers. At the time of the announcement, Closner Equipment was the sole remaining independent BG dealer in North America and their territory covered Central, South and West Texas.
In a statement by Bennett Closner, “We have been affiliated with Barber-Greene since 1952 and with Caterpillar Paving Products since 1991. Our relationship with Caterpillar has been excellent, as evidenced by the high population of BG pavers in Texas. This agreement reflects the commitment by Closner and Caterpillar to continue the support of the large Barber Greene fleet operating in Texas. Even though BG support is available through dealers of Caterpillar products, we have many loyal customers who prefer the BG branded pavers and our focused parts, service and training capabilities. This agreement with Caterpillar allows us to continue to support our loyal customers.”
Under the terms of the Agreement, Closner will continue as the Authorized Dealer for Barber-Greene Parts, Service and Warranty through the 2016 paving season. All remaining BG pavers in Closner’s inventory & rental fleet will be sold with Extended Warranties that cover the machines through 2016.
